Are You a Leader?

Thanks to a tip from Carlos Whittaker, I visited Tony Morgan’s blog. I found lots of interesting posts. One in particular caught my eye. It is entitled, 10 Easy Ways to Know You’re Not a Leader.

Horse Race

Here’s a summary of what he says:

  1. You’re waiting on a bigger staff and more money to accomplish your vision.
  2. You think you need to be in charge to have influence.
  3. You’re content.

  1. You tend to foster division instead of generating a helpful dialogue.
  2. You think you need to say something to be heard.
  3. You find it easier to blame others for your circumstances than to take responsibility for solutions.
  4. It’s been some time since you said, “I messed up.”
  5. You’re driven by the task instead of the relationships and the vision.
  6. Your dreams are so small, people think they can be achieved.
  7. No one is following you.

It is definitely worth visiting Tony’s blog and reading the entire post.

I like this one: Your dreams are so small, people think they can be achieved.

That was interesting. Thanks for sharing the link, Mike.

  2. What a challenging list. I like the one about not being content. I’m never content!

But I worry what I’m supposed to do with verses like Philippians 4:11. How can a leader be content no matter what the circumstances, but still keep the edge that a good leader needs?

    #7 Caught my attention.
What if it has been a long while since those that are following you said, “you got it right?”

    No pressure in leadership, nahh.
