My Treasure Chest

I get asked a lot about the tools I use, including the books I read, the software I use, the videos I like, and the quotes that move me. Initially, I set up a Tumblr.com account, thinking I could post little snippets about them there. The problem is that it just becomes one more thing for me to maintain and you to visit.

a treasure chest with the lid open

Instead, I decided I would post these on my own blog. I thought I would tell you about them before they just start showing up. They will be different from my regular blog content. Specifically, they will be:

  • Shorter—usually no more than a paragraph.
  • Tagged—so that you can see all my resources in say, Writing, Web, Productivity, Quotes, etc.
  • Rated—with a five-star rating system.
  • Linked—with the web page you can find the resource or original source.

If you want to see all the resources I have reviewed, you can click on the top menu of my blog under Resources. Enjoy!

  1. I'll definitely look forward to these. Most quotes you've hosted have become favorites I've added to my own list. And brevity invites some of the most profound thoughts.

Good thinking. I am ready to close down a couple and began to do single paragraphs too.

I love the analogy of a treasure chest–I use it in the introduction to the book I am working on. After forty years of asking God to help me understand the Bible, I have plenty of gems to share. So, while you are sharing from your expertise and experience and helping me, maybe someday I will also be able to share with others. (Yes, I know I need to increase my online presence, but as a teacher, I have slotted the next two months to write my book. Then, I will work on the online stuff.)

  4. Love it. Thanks for sharing! You are a web ninja!

    • Thanks, Daniel. Thankfully, I was able to hack the code with a little help from my friends. ;-)

      • Care to share a link as to the code you hacked together? I would like to create a searchable personal database or "lifestream" on my blog. The hope would be to use the "press this" bookmark to create something similar to Posterous except as a category of my blog instead of an entirely separate site.

        P.S. How is Nelson doing?

        • I'd have to give some thought to that. I did it several months ago, so I'd have to go back in and remember what I did. Are you on a WordPress, self-hosted blog?

Nelson , my dog, or Nelson my company? Both are actually doing well. Thanks!

          • I am running wordpress self hosted, with full FTP access on shared hosting. Would love to see what you come up with! :>)

P.S. I was talking about Nelson the dog. My wife thinks he is funny and she doesn't normally like dogs.

You've helped me so much-thank you.

Hi, I stumbled upon your blog from a newsletter I subscribe to and I love it! I am getting ready to start my own blog and am so inspired by you and yours. I am doing my research on resources and am wondering, do you have a custom Wordpress theme or are you using a free standard one? Thanks and keep the posts coming. This is one of the most interesting and eclectic blogs I've read in quite a while.

    • Thanks, Lynn. I always wonder whether or not my eclectic posts work for most users. But the truth is that I am being true to myself. I have a lot of eclectic interests!

      Thanks for the encouragement!
