If there is one thing great leaders know, it is how to lead themselves. This is especially important in turbulent times. If you can’t lead yourself—and keep your own batteries charged—you can’t lead others.

That’s why I am attending The Catalyst Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, October 7–9. In a moment, I’ll tell you how you can attend too and get an exclusive 28% discount—but only for the next 48 hours.
The Catalyst Conference is now in its tenth year. I have attended twice and loved it both times. Not only am I attending this year, but I am taking several of my own team members with me.
Here are three reasons you should join us in Atlanta:
- You will get to hear from some of the best leaders in the world. These include Andy Stanley, Chuck Swindoll, Louie Giglio, Malcolm Gladwell, Dave Ramsey, Tony Dungy, Priscilla Shirer, Rob Bell, Francis Chan, Matt Chandler, Jessica Jackley, Josh Hamilton, and many others.
- You will experience a fully immersive, learning and creative experience. It will leave you thinking bigger than you ever thought possible and better equipped to take on the the challenges you are facing in your own organization.
- You will rub shoulders and interact with 12,000 next-generation leaders. I don’t know of any other conference that attracts so many bright and committed leaders in one place. You will meet people that will make a difference in your leadership journey.
In short, The Catalyst Conference will be three days of non-stop “leadership adrenaline.”
As I mentioned, Catalyst has agreed to offer a special registration price of $229 to my readers. This is a 28% discount off the regular ticket price of $319! However, you must register within the next 48 hours to get this special pricing.
To take advantage of this exclusive offer, call (888) 334-6569 to speak with the Catalyst Concierge team or register on The Catalyst web site and use Rate Code “MHB.”
Again, you must register before Thursday, August 27th to receive this special rate. I look forward to seeing you there!

Cool! I'll be at Catalyst for the first time this year as an exhibitor for my company OurChurch.Com. Will Thomas Nelson have an exhibit? Or are you going as a regular attendee?
I'm going as a regular attendee. I can't wait to soak it up!
I've had Catalyst on my attend list for several years but it hasn't ever worked out. Until this year. I'll be there with a group of leaders from throughout Virginia Baptist life. I'm looking forward to hearing from thought leaders and meeting new people, and reconnecting with friends.
See you there!
Good for you, Cheryl. We'll have to connect while you are there. Maybe we can do a Tweet-up. We just did one at Women of Faith this past weekend in Dallas. It was really great.
I went to the Catalyst One Day this Spring. It was great but I am so excited for the full Catalyst experience in October.
It will be fun to be there together, along with others from the Thomas Nelson team.
Catalyst is amazing…the guys do an incredible job of putting it together. Everything is creative and first class!
Hi Michael,
Thanks so much for the kind post. The entire Catalyst crew is really looking forward to the event this year. We have been bathing it in prayer and truly believe God's going to do something HUGE! There are a lot of people who are making a financial sacrifice to make it happen this year. Hope to have the pleasure of meeting you personally at the conference. Aaron
I am grateful Aaron. I know it is going to be so worth the money and the time.
Catalyst has been an AMAZING experience for me. Soooo unlike any other conference I've attended. It's fun, it's challenging, it's powerful – God used it to totally change the direction of my life in 2006 & he continues to use it to challenge me!
I'm praying that this year God will do something really awesome, life changing, supernatural – like what He did at Pentecost!!!! pray w/ me.
The event is a total experience of powerful teaching, authentic worship, and creative experience that will have carry-over even after its done. The beauty of Catalyst though is the community of leaders, and being in that arena with 12,000 people will give you a tangible view of the DNA of what Catalyst is all about. Don't miss this opportunity to engage in not just an event… but a movement for the Kingdom.
12,000 people in one place is always a kick, especially with programming that is this good. I cannot believe the speaker line-up they have this year. Amazing!
Yes I have attended. It’s an all-around experience from the moment you enter the parking lot! The teaching is incredible and the creativity keeps you engaged the entire time. There is nothing quite like worshipping with 12,000 of your peers in such a big environment … yet feels so intimate.
I enjoy the worship aspect, too. I should have mentioned that in my post. The only thing that rivals the worship is Women of Faith. But, since we own that conference, I may be biased. ;-)
Catalyst changed my perspective last year. I was in seminary and a really bad place, exhausted from studies and ministry and turning cynical. God kicked me out of that complacent, dark place and renewed the vision He has called me to in ministry.
Plus the crazy stuff Catalyst does is always fun and worshiping our great God with 12,000 brothers and sisters is quite an experience in itself
I can't wait – I need my Catalyst "fix" more this year than any other year. The well is a bit dry and I need God to move in such a powerful way. I love Catalyst because there isn't another movment out there like it with such passionate and agressive Christ Followers…the people who attend want and CAN change the world for Him. I am praying the God will REIGN down in such a supernatural way that many of us have never experienced BEFORE!
I think true leaders are constantly seeking new input. The well doesn't just fill itself. You have to take the initiative and seek it. Congratulations to you for doing so!
Was introduced to Catalyst in 2005 & it's been a crazy-fun journey ever since. What amazes me most is how each year God uses the speakers, worship, and creativity in a unique way. His voice is clear and it's awesome worshipping with so many other people!
It's been fun inviting friends to join me this year. Friends who are leaders in all areas of life – business, sports, ministry, non-profits. I'm excited for them to have the same experience!!
believing GREAT things.
sa
I'm thinking seriously about inviting a group from my church.
The thing I love most about Catalyst is the tremendous balance between an entertaining environment and deep challenging teaching. In so many spaces of the Church today it seems to be an either/or thing. But Catalyst allows you to walk away having had your faith challenged and your boundries of ministry shattered while also having had a great time.
I couldn't agree more. It really pushes against "business as usual." Plus, it is just plain entertaining.
This will be my fourth consecutive year attending Catalyst Conference. Every year I am blown away and brain-fried by the time it's through. Can't wait to embrace the challange and to grow yet another year as a leader. It gets better every year…
I know, it is truly an incredible conference. I LOVE the input!
I just registered — looks like the right thing for me at the right time! Thanks for the discount — every bit helps!
Great. I'm glad you could take advantage of it!
I went to the first one ten years ago and it was amazing. Due to living overseas I haven't been able to attend since then but I'm hoping they do another West Coast event next Spring while I'm in the US.
I am going for the first time. I cannot wait!!
Yea Catalyst! I can't wait. I leave College every year for 4 days to be there, it's that good!
And the U2 concert the night before. Hooo yes.
U2. Seriously? I have got to check that out, too.
yessir..It's in Atl the night before labs but I think it's sold out.
Found out yesterday I will be attending Catalyst myself. Last year was my first year and this year I may be actually shooting still photography for it (or at least an assistant photography). Can't wait!!
I visited NY Dream Center last night for a service and heard the Pastor mention this conference. Today I read a post on twitter about the conference. I believe God wants me there! Would appreciate if someone would sponsor me to go.
Actually, I think you will get WAY more out it if you pay your way, even if you have to do some extra work to get the money. When I have nothing invested, I don't get as much out of it.
This is my first Catalyst…taking our church plant team to it is sooo exciting! Our launch date is October 18th….can't wait to be poured into by God through all the gifted speakers!
That is such a great idea, to go with your team. I have found that when you share the input, you can really make the applications powerful in an organization. I hope you enjoy it!
Alas, school has started and my calendar is full–everyone be blessed with the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom that God can only give!
I'm up for a Catalyst tweet up! I'm local if you need any info for nearby locations.
This might be fun. Then again, it may be that all 12,000 attendees are on Twitter! I will check with the event planner.
never been to catalyst. but i've seen the picture on your blog. just curious that you used the word "immersive." As a corp trainer I'm curious how an arena setting accomplishes "immersive?" are there breakout sessions for small groups and interactivity? or how is "immersive" defined in this context?
not being critical-just curious.
Yes, there are breakout sessions. However, I define immersive as something that involves all your senses. It's like being thrown into an ocean where the input is visual, aural, and, at times, tactile.
By immersive, I meant to imply an event that appeals to all of your senses—visual, aural, and even at times, tactile. It is like jumping into an ocean of deeply stimulating and moving experience.
i'd love to go someday
I will be there as a volunteer. Looking forward to serving you all.
The first time I attended Catalyst after a few years of failed attempts, either from lack of funds, to other commitments, was a truly significant moment. My boss (the student pastor) surprised me with a ticket one Wednesday evening, after a church service. This was significant in it's own way, as my previous pastor didn't invest in me. He told me to drop everything and attend this with him, even though I had some books due to go to press soon.
I sat on the edge of my seat when the question was raised, "Do you want the power of God to work in your life?" by Rick Warren. My questions at the time to God were answered in the simple response, "Be about what God is about, that's what He's blessing." Ha. Duh! When everything seemed so complex for this wide-eyed pastor just 3 or 4 years in ministry, God showed his profound simplicity and steadied my heart. This changed everything. I was in love with the Catalyst conference because of the people and wisdom it connected me to. That was my Catalyst experience.
