Don’t Buy My Book—Yet!

My new book, Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World, has just started shipping to bookstores. The official publication date is Tuesday, May 22. In a moment, I’ll tell you why you should WAIT until then to buy it.

Platform Book

First, let me tell you a little about the book.

A Great Product Was No Longer Enough

As you may know, I have spent my entire career in the book publishing industry. I have sat on every side of the table—as a publisher, a literary agent, and an author.

Until a year ago, I was the CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers, one of the largest publishers in the world. I have pretty much seen and done it all.

About ten years ago, I noticed a disturbing trend in our business. We had begun turning away authors with great ideas, compelling proposals, and even well-written manuscripts.

Great content was no longer enough. To get published, you also had to have a platform. Content may have been King, but platform had become Queen.

Building a Platform Was Difficult

Perhaps you are thinking, What is a platform? Well, it’s that thing you stand on to get heard. In the old days, it was made of wood or bricks. It was a literal stage.

Ten years ago, a platform was a television program, a radio show, or a magazine or newspaper column. Or, it might have been the by-product of being a successful business person, an athlete, or a recording artist.

Regardless, a platform was something that was difficult to build. You either had it or you didn’t. It was largely dependent on whether some gate-keeper gave you access to their audience.

Social Media Changed Everything

But in 2006, with the advent of social media, everything changed. Suddenly, it became possible for mere mortals—people like you and me—to build our own platforms. And many did.

In fact, I even built one. But almost by accident. And while maintaining a very demanding “day job.”

I started blogging in 2004, not really knowing where it would lead. I wrote for four years before I was able to attract more than a thousand readers (unique visitors) a month.

But in 2008, I reached an “inflection point.” This is when I began to get involved with Twitter and then with Facebook. That year, my audience went from a thousand readers a month to 22,000 a month. It has grown dramatically every year since.

Today, my platform consists of:

  • 302,000 blog visitors a month
  • 120,632 followers on Twitter
  • 92,000 podcast listeners a month
  • 15,561 fans on Facebook
  • 50 speaking engagements a year

Because of this, I was able to step out of my role as the CEO of Thomas Nelson to speak and write full-time—a dream I have had for years. My platform made this possible.

I Can Teach You How to Do It Too

I told someone the other day, “I wrote Platform in six months, but it took me eight years of trial and error to make it possible.”

Fortunately, I documented everything I did. I wrote it all down—the successes and the failures. Platform is the book I wished I could have given to all the authors we kept turning away.

But this book is not just for authors.

It is for anyone with something to say or to sell.

This includes authors, musicians, comedians, public speakers, small business owners, sales people, and even corporate marketing directors. In other words, you.

It’s designed to help you leverage the power of social media to get attention for your product, your service, your brand, or your cause. The principles I share apply to anyone who needs more visibility.

And it won’t take you eight years. If I had known then what I know today, I could have done it much faster—perhaps in a couple of years. Many people I have coached along the way are on that growth trajectory now.

That’s why twenty-seven different leaders have endorsed the book, including Seth Godin, Dave Ramsey, John Maxwell, Chris Brogan, Tim Sanders, Dan Miller, and more.

Practical, Step-by-Step Guidance

The Platform System™ that I outline in the book is made up up five directives:

  1. Start with Wow
  2. Prepare to Launch
  3. Build Your Home Base
  4. Expand Your Reach
  5. Engage Your Tribe

Each of these directives consists of 10–12 short chapters. Each chapter provides step-by-step instructions for building that aspect of your platform.

Lots of people are talking about the importance of building a platform. But no one has exactly explained how to do it—until now. This book provides the practical guidance you need to make it happen.

Get Seven Free Bonuses Worth $375.98

So yes, I want you to buy the book! Can you tell I am excited?

BUT …

I want to ask you to wait until the week of May 21–25, which is the official “launch week.” The reason is that I want to register as many sales as possible during this period of time in an attempt to get the book on the New York Times best sellers list.

You are the key. And I need your help.

If you are willing to wait, I will reward you BIG TIME for doing so. Here’s the deal: if you buy the book during the week of May 21–25, I will send you SEVEN FREE BONUSES worth $375.98.

I will announce what these bonuses are on May 21st, here on my blog. They will include a new video training program, the digital editions of the book, and the unabridged audio edition of the book—and those are just three of the seven bonuses I am including.

I can’t wait for your book to come out Michael! With what you’ve shared on your blog, it’s already helped propel me to a new level of blogging. I can only imagine what the book will do for me.

I’m hoping the book will bring me to the “next” level in my blog. A better rate of engagement, a more connected email network, and how to increase the sharing of the blog.

Good luck and can’t wait to see this book succeed!

    • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

      Awesome, Joe. Thanks so much!

    • http://www.brandongilliland.com/ Brandon

I believe you are about to hit a spike in all of those things you mentioned!

  • sethgodin

Congratulations on the new book. Bravo!

But I’m saddened that you’re fooled by the NY Times list hype. First, the list is a fraud, a fake, a printed untruth about what’s really selling. It’s gamed right and left and means nothing.

Your book is going to change the way a lot of people reach their dreams, and that’s enough. Don’t let an artificial list get in the way of spreading the word.

But if it makes you happy, I won’t buy your book today. Sigh.

    • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

Thanks for commenting, Seth. You might be right.

Nevertheless, I am sending you a copy free, so you won’t have to buy one. It might have gone out yesterday.
Thanks again for all your support.

    • http://www.wadeoradio.com DJ Wade-O

Hello Seth. I’d love to hear you expand on the “falsity” of the NY Times list.

      Thanks,
      Wade

This book release is exciting. I can’t wait to read it, but I also know how hard it was for you to see this dream reach this day. Thanks for your hard work in putting it together and thanks for sharing what you learned.

    • http://www.MicheleCushatt.com/ Michele Cushatt

You’re going to love it, Jeremy!

I can see it now, Michael Hyatt’s Video Podcast live from the Today show…. Good luck, my friend. This is going to be big!

    • http://www.MicheleCushatt.com/ Michele Cushatt

I’m with you, John – this is going to be big!

    • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

From your lips to God’s ear! Seriously, thanks for your support, John.

  • http://profiles.google.com/cdanielthompson Daniel Thompson

There isn’t really a way to sign up for the offer. Unless it’s supposed to be in this comment box. That’s too bad, because I’m not going to my email here. ;)

    • Lainehmann

There’s an opt-in box up above at the bottom of the post. Right above “Question…”

    • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

Yes, you should see an opt-in box at the bottom of the post.

      • Helenryde

The opt in box does not appear in the email version of the post – I had to click on the heading, go to the browser and sigh up there. This was on my iPhone. Hope that helps.

  • Nathanchittyorlando

Great approach Michael. You can count on me.

  • http://twitter.com/meegsx michelle plett

I’ll wait and buy it then.

  • http://chrisvonada.info/ chris vonada

Hats off Michael, looking forward to the book and thankful for having the opportunity to learn from the wisdom you’ve shared here!

  • Cwillison

Marked my calendar for the big purchase on May 21. Thanks for the extras offer too.

  • Lainehmann

If you want us to hold off, don’t make the book sound so fantastic and then tell us to wait for three weeks!! I honestly am tempted to buy now just because you’ve gotten me so pumped up about the content. But I will try to restrain myself. :)

    • http://www.MicheleCushatt.com/ Michele Cushatt

       Haha! True!

  • RickSmithAuthor

Great stuff, Michael. Can’t wait, and certain this will be a must read in the business author circles! Bon chance!

  • Laura McClellan

Signed up, and waiting with great anticipation for the book to release!

  • Don Key

Yes, I want to sign up for the book and bonuses.

  • http://www.morethanareview.com/ Donna

Michael, Your book could not come at a better time for me.  I am in the process of building and launching a book review website; More Than A Review and I will need all the information in your book for this to be successful.  I am not a blogger today but it appears that I will have to learn.

It is so hard to wait for the results to trickle in. We all want that overnight success.   Thanks so much for your blog, I find it to be more useful for real life stuff than any other.

  • http://www.scotlongyear.com/ Scot Longyear

I’m excited for you, and for us!  I’m currently working on my new book “Why Michael Hyatt Killed Your Blog.”  :>    Thanks for your attention to content and personality.  You are at the top of my feed.  Blessings!

    • http://www.robsorbo.com/p/welcome-from-disqus.html Rob Sorbo

That sounds interesting. If anything, Michael is a huge blessing to my blog.

Can I ask what it’s going to be about? (Other than the “duh” answer from your title.)

      • http://www.scotlongyear.com/ Scot Longyear

        Hey Rob,
Just a joke. Sometimes my humor does not translate through the keyboard!

        • http://www.robsorbo.com/p/welcome-from-disqus.html Rob Sorbo

Oh sorry–I’m often accused of not having a sense of humor (and often those accusers are correct).

I do think that’d be an interesting book though–I’m not sure I could even come up with a whole chapter to write about though.

  • Jennifer E Rivera

I am a great fan of your blog and podcast. I signed up to wait and look forward to the goodies that will accompany the book.

    Best of luck.

  • wendy

    Waiting!

    • http://www.MicheleCushatt.com/ Michele Cushatt

       Thanks for your help, Wendy!

  • http://prisonersprayerbook.com/ Louise

My blog/website has been up since November, when my book The Prisoner’s Prayer Book came out. Today, six months later, I have had over 21000 hits. I realize, however, that I have a very small niche market for prisoners (who have no money), families of prisoners (who have no money), and prison ministries (who also have no money). Add to this the fact that I am not very technologically savvy. Direction would help.

    • Sandra Pate

God’s will and word of mouth regarding acts of mercy are wonderful platforms.

      • http://prisonersprayerbook.com/ Louise

        Thanks, Sandra! :)

  • Honoré

I am looking forward to the book! I’m sure it will have “Michael Hyatt” written all over it! Congratulations and thank you for this opportunity.
    Cheers~

  • http://www.warriorshepherd.com/blog Dave Hearn

    Wait–

For a second I thought I was reading Tim Ferris’ blog, not Michael Hyatt…

But seriously, and sort of echoing Seth Godin’s sentiment, what are your reasons (other than the obvious fame & fortune ;^)  for wanting the NYT bestseller list?

Maybe I’ve just been brainwashed by Seth…

    • Diana

Hitting the NYT bestseller list would assure that the message goes out to more people. If Michael’s  motivation is to truly help as many people as possible, then that could be a good thing. If it’s for fame and fortune, then that could also be a good thing if the money is used to do more good. If it’s for self aggrandizement, then that could be a problem, but knowing Michael’s character, I am confident that his motives are pure.

      • http://www.MicheleCushatt.com/ Michele Cushatt

Excellent insight, Diana. If we believe in our message, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to share it with as many people as possible. In fact, if we aren’t passionate about sharing it, we probably shouldn’t have written the book in the first place!

    • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

Great question. Thanks for asking. When you hit the best sellers list, it creates additional visibility for the book. Bookstores that had not yet ordered it will. People who have not yet heard of it will have the opportunity to buy it.
It also creates additional social authority. While some don’t put much stock in the NYT list, most do. Those people use it as a filter for what’s worth reading. Thanks.

      • http://www.warriorshepherd.com/blog Dave Hearn

I understand, Michael.  Thanks for explaining it a bit more for me …

      • Dukedillard

I understand and it makes sense, but is this the way everyone gets on the NYT list- by manipulating the system? There is something about it that seems used car salesmanish. It is too bad one has to resort to these tactics. I do wish you success. I have benefitted immensely from your wisdom and experience. Thank you for sharing so freely with us.

      • Nancy

A lot of libraries (at least in my area) try to carry all the books on the NY Times Bestseller List – another form of increased visibility.

  • Frank

Thanks for what sounds like a great offer, I’ve signed up!

  • http://tommartinatl.com/ Tom Martin

I’m in…and there is a lot to be said about timing, delaying my purchase of your book for the bonus features and the changes I have in play on my blog, Leveraging Life.

  • http://twitter.com/sparkvoice D

A platform would allow me to reach more and more people to share my story with, my life experiences with, and how God has been instrumental in my journey.  I want to change the world by changing lives – one at a time.

I’m excited to learn from your experiences and utilize them for greater impact my life.

  • Duane Moyer

I’m not sure how to sign up from the blog post this morning for the bonus stuff.  Let me know.

You can signup, using the form at the end of the post. Thanks.

Can’t wait to get it. Follow your blog daily. Was even published a few years ago by Word, Daughters Gone Wild-Dads Gone Crazy (I think it was a part of Thomas Nelson). Got a lot to learn from your book. thx

  • Jeff Melvin

The Anticipation is killing me Michael! The 22nd of May seems to long to wait.

Been reading your blog & listening to your podcast – awesome content that challenges me to “Be Intentional” in my day-to-day activities.

  • su Soutter

I am so excited. . this will be my summer reading and “training”.  I have learned so much just from reading your blog. . I can’t imagine what I will learn from the book.  You have become a common name in our house. . .

  • Margaret Gargaro

Extremely excited to read your newest material/book.  Thank you for giving us another tool in this thing called “LIFE”.. it is greatly appreciated.

  • http://www.struggletovictory.com/ Kari Scare

A platform for me would mean having the confidence to follow through with the vision God gave me. It would mean not feeling lost and overwhelmed in doing so much trial by error. The book sounds great, and I am looking forward to it.

  • GordonMarcy

Just yesterday I was asked by Tom Harper if I’d be interested in reviewing “Platform” for the ChurchCentral.com blog community. I said, “Who is Michael Hyatt?”

Seriously, reviewing “Platform” will be like having me some good ole fashioned country fun. It will also be another way to say “thanks” for all the planks you’ve already given for constructing our own platforms. All the best with your new book, Michael, that will enable so many more to make their voices heard.

Now, if I could just snag a fifteen minute interview to go with the review. ;)

    • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

Thanks, Gordon. I would be happy to do an interview. I am sending this message to my friends at Thomas Nelson, so they can set something up with you. All the best.

      • GordonMarcy

I appreciate that big time! Look forward to our conversation. (Note: This “Platform” thing really works.)

  • http://DaddyLife.net/ Hank Osborne

The book sounds great. Based on book publishing/release research I have done I would say you are going to rocket to the top of the charts for two reasons. It’s a great book and a lot of people will buy it in a very short span of time based on your recommendations for all of your blog/podcast subscribers to hold off until the last minute. Genius!

  • http://www.suttonparks.com/ Sutton Parks

Yes, to be published today an author needs a platform, but that shouldn’t keep them from writing their book.  Artists don’t need another excuse not to write.  As Mr. Jobs said, “Real artists ship”.  A book is part of someone’s platform and will build credibility more than a blog will.

Of course it is up to authors to promote their book and a platform helps.  But if someone is writing a book about a message they cannot contain, then they should write the book first.  Why contain it.  Write the book then build your platform.

But to be published and to help ensure your message gets maximum exposure, authors must work on their platform.  That is why I’ll be getting your book and am thankful you shared your experience.

  • cathrynhasek

Will be praying for your launch and praying that you were able to add something about your faith walk into that platform building…can’t do it without Him!  Blessings!

  • http://www.facebook.com/debra.l.butterfield Debra L. Butterfield

I’ve been working four years to build a readership. Every year I ask myself (and God) if this is something I should continue to work at. And every year I keep plugging away–reading what others have learned and trying to apply the varied advice that is out in the blogosphere. I hope I can put my cynicism aside to fully grasp and apply what you have to offer in your new book.

  • Tricia Hayes

I am so excited to read your book! All signed up and patiently waiting for May 21st.

  • Louise B

the opt in box only shows if you’re reading it on the web…Not if you’re reading in an email.

    • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

Yea, I figured that out after I sent the e-mail. Argh. It just goes to show you, I still have a few things to learn!

  • http://www.robsorbo.com/p/welcome-from-disqus.html Rob Sorbo

Can’t wait. It sounds terrific. I’m still in the earliest stages of developing a blog, so my platform currently consists of family, a few friends, and a few people I’ve “met” through other blogs and comments.

I’m on a pretty tight budget–would it be rude to ask how much the book will cost? I’d like to start planning ahead so I can buy it during the launch week.

    • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

The book retails for $24.99, but most of the major retailers will be selling it for $16.00 to $20.00.

      • Jrbdanish58

Will we be able to purchase the book on your website the week of May 21st?

  • http://www.davegorden.com/ Dave

This book will be a GREAT Investment.  Michel’s Blog is one of the few that I read every word of, often more than once.  He walks his talk.  His position at Thomas Nelson gave him a great opportunity to discover what works and what doesn’t.  We all communicate in one ay or another and I am confident that the interest on this investment will be much more than 100%!  In today’s competitive marketplace, that is all but impossible to find.

I need a platform! I have spent the last three years producing a soon-to-be-released documentary film about gendercide called It’s a Girl. My passion is to mobilize the world to end the injustice of killing millions of girls, just because they are girls. Since I uploaded the trailer to YouTube, I have had more than 200,000 views. Mine is the first feature length documentary on this issue. Requests and inquiries are flooding in. I sense the perfect opportunity to build a platform with this exposure.  I have been consuming your blog and podcasts and am learning so much. I’m slowly building a following on facebook and twitter and have started a blog. Can’t wait for the book!

  • Randy

I look forward to your book.  Please sign me up.

Michael I can’t wait to dig into your book. I’ve been sharing your wisdom with our church staff.

  • http://www.WisdomInWatercolor.com/ Debbie

I spent two hours weeping in my hotel room at the conclusion of the Christian Booksellers Association (now ICRS) show in Orlando several years ago. Why? Every publisher I spoke with that day was more concerned with size of my platform than the significance of my message.

One even told me, “If you were (insert name of big name author) and you asked us to start making cars for you, we’d start producing cars.” Michael, I’m so glad you are addressing this platform issue in a succinct fashion that can help people like me get a message out to people who can use the encouragement. Glad you post came today- I was just about to pre-order!

Thanks for sharing that, Debbie. I really wrote this book for people exactly like you.

Your blog has helped me so much in this area. I can’t wait to read your book! Blessings!

  • Christopher Johnston

After feeling god speaking to me at service on Sunday I’m building a platform that will allow me to use my marketing degree as director of communications for a church. I’m not sure how long it will take but I know eventually I will succeed.

  • http://www.thedailyretort.com/ TorConstantino

Michael, I’m thrilled and excited to glean your insights on this topic because of your incredible success living it! This is an incredible offer that every writer should take you up on – NYT best-seller list, here you come ;-)

  • Nancy Penney

This is amazing!  I need to be reading about platform-building RIGHT NOW, and here are all your tools!  Looking forward to getting the big picture soon.

  • http://twitter.com/jrandallshort Randall Short

Watching you build your platform since we first connected on Twitter a couple of years or so ago has been educational for me.

What would a platform make possible for me? The reach and influence to help millions of non-native English speakers grow as thinkers, as people, through their English language education. I aim to do that. And I have a feeling that your book will help me figure out how.

Thanks for sharing what you’ve learned.

  • Andrew Breton

How much of your inspiration has come from Chip and Dan Heath, authors of Made to Stick and Switch? I am rather new to your blog, so forgive me if you have mentioned them before. I also highly recommend Juicing the Orange by Fallon and Senn. I guess my follow up question is this, how will it be different than those books?

    • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

I have read the Heath brother’s book twice. I am not familiar with Fallon and Senn’s book. I would say that the Heaths’ book is really about creating memorable, wow product. My book is about building a platform to get the word out about your product (or service). Hope that helps.

      • Andrew Breton

         Great explanation. Thanks.

    Michael,

The way you’ve gone about releasing this book is just fantastic.  I’m very excited for the release and will be purchasing on Day #1.

    Thanks for all you do.

  • Marshall Walker

I can’t wait for your book to come out Michael!  Both your blog and your podcasts have been very inspiring to me.  Working here in sales for Dave I realize that I too have a platform and I’m very excited to read more from you.  Great suff!

Your new book sounds wonderful and helpful!  I look forward to getting a copy as soon as it comes out!  Please add me to your list!  I look forward to reading your blogs each day!

  • Lorna Faith

Can’t wait to read your book Michael:)  I know what you have to tell us will change a lot of lives and give us the ‘how-to’ take our platform to the next level…thanks!

  • Alan Stoddard

I’m going to wait! Love you blog. It helps my walk.

  • http://twitter.com/martyn_j Martyn J Wood

Michael to say I am excited about the release of your book  is an understatement  what a platform would do for me is allow me to hone my message and find the right audience that I may add value to  count me in

  • http://twitter.com/eccle0412 Jackie Anderson

Obviously all these rambling thoughts and amazing life experiences are not just for me (I once thought so). If other “average people” like me can be so inspired to see fresh, clear, new, we can influence the world exponentially. After all average is the majority. I will wait, then buy and use.

  • http://profiles.google.com/michellebrinson Michelle Sanders Brinson

I’m passionated about writing. I write for a nonprofit full time, but I’d like to establish my own platform to write what I’m passionate about… and that is sharing the love of Jesus through life experiences. I’ve already preordered the book through Amazon… but I’d order another copy or even cancel the Amazon one just to get all these extras.

  • Jeff

Mike, that “opt in” box doesn’t appear until you click to leave a comment.

    • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

Yes, unfortunately, that is correct. We didn’t think to make sure it would work in the e-mail. Ugh.

  • Mikehamilton63

Looking forward to the book and also the chance to meet in a couple weeks. Can’t imagine  that your book could come at a better time for me.

  • Rharris7032

    Dear Michael,
The email subscription version does not have a sign up link. You have to go to the comment page then scroll up to find a place to sign up for the new book. It is very clunky.
    Thanks for the book,
    Randy

  • http://www.tomeggebrecht.com/ Tom Eggebrecht

Can’t wait for this book to come out, Michael. It’s going to help me build a platform for more public speaking, for enhancing my blog, and for engaging in major events in my church body. I know it will also help my son, who is a musician, and studies at Belmont U. In fact, wouldn’t it be awesome to somehow get a copy to every student on Belmont’s campus?? Most students are there because they are aiming toward careers where they will definitely have to build a platform.

    Can’t WAIT to read it!

  • http://cavemanreflections.blogspot.com/ Michael Mulligan

Michael, I’m a relative newcomer to the social media scene and your daily blogs are helping me to grasp how I fit in.  I’m appreciative of all the lessons you teach here and look forward to reading your book.  Thanks for sharing your talents here daily.

From what I have seen recently there is more focus on platform than there is on message.  I keep hearing from MANY sources you need to build a platform, build a platform, build a platform. Well that is true, but shouldn’t the question be WHY are you wanting to build a platform? What is your message? Who do you want to share it with? What if the message, platform and audience are not in sync?

  • http://www.destiny2lead.com/ Jeremy May

This book seems to be exactly what I need. I started blogging earlier this year and it has been hard to gain motivation because I don’t feel like I know what I’m doing as far as building a platform. I can’t wait to read this. I know there will be some great tips in it.

  • Sandy_GodSpeaksToday

This is absolutely the book I’ve been waiting for.  I’ve been told by 3 large publishing houses, “Love your writing.  Love your book idea.  Love your proposal.  Go build your platform, and we’ll talk.”

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

The time if right for this kind of book. As a writer and communicator who has heard editors and agents constantly use the “P”-word (i.e., Platform) over the past few years, it is refreshing to find out that someone with your breadth of experience is going to help define (or re-define) it for us. I really look forward to this read! Thank you, Michael.

Thanks Mike – looking forward to getting mentored via your book in building my platform. I’m an accredited mentor with Thought Leaders Global (www.thoughtleadersglobal.com) and their curriculum is great for defining message, market & mode – but learning platforms from a world leader in book publishing with a proven social media track record will be fantastic.

  • http://www.justcris.com/ Cris Ferreira

That’s a great deal indeed. Will it be valid for buyers abroad? I usually buy books on Amazon.com in Kindle format.
But anyway, I will wait until that week to buy the book. Count me in, even if I am not elegible for the bonuses. I am sure the contents of the book will be worthy enough.

  • Nancy

I will also wait and purchase it that week.  I am looking forward to having all your tips in one book instead of in multiple blog posts.

  • lindagma

I would call this an answer to prayer for me. I have been totally frustrated and overwhelmed with the prospect of building a platform. Bring it on!

  • Jan Evett

I am so excited about your new book.  Looking forward to reading it and learning what I don’t know that I need to know!  Launching my widows counseling ministry soon, and that is a tribe that needs to be engaged in a big way!  Congrats on your book!

A platform would release me into things I’d possibly only dreamed of. Better start now!

  • George Stuart-Vail

    “Don’t buy my book” –

Yeah we know what that really means. And I can see your marketing schemes between the lines here. But, you know – because I’ve been reading you off and on since 2006-ish you’ve gained my trust through open-ness, honesty, and relevence. So, I’ll allow a little pitching in what feels like the home court. Mind you though, I’ve seen friends lost and family estranged through such venues as pyramid marketing and home parties which thrive on relationships but weaken and cheapen them in the process. (Still, I’ll keep it real if you will.)

“What would a platform make possible for you?”

It might make possible the passing on of the miraculous breakthroughs in health, self confidence, and positive lifestyle choices which my wife has experienced and desires to minister to others who feel stuck, hopeless, and victimized.

I tell you this woman is on FIRE, and that energy aught to be directed properly to help those in need, not lost in the oceans of weight loss sales pitches and health improvement gimmicks.

I might someday like to utilize some platform for my own selfserving/self promoting opportunistic plans – but for now.. her motivations are so much more noble than mine that I just can’t help but start there.

How much for the book anyway? I don’t see a price – honestly, tho, I don’t really care… within reason, of course.

    Ready to order.

  • deairby

I am looking forward to the book! Dea Irby at deairby@gmail.com

  • George Stuart-Vail

Sorry my previous post wasn’t intended to compare Micheal Hyatt, his book or his practices with any schemes or less than appropriately intended methods nor do I wish to infer ill will of the author. I was trying to politely remind of the fragility of consumer perception, and such. I should (and will try to) rescind any portion of my previous comment  which may have smacked of suspision or held any offense. I realized, after posting, that such concerns should be for the author only as feedback and not spoken out to the masses.

  • Paula Clare

  • Kelly Johnson

Glad you’re finding Michael’s blog helpful in your daily life. What’s been your best takeaway from Michael?

  • http://www.tnealtarver.wordpress.com TNeal

You’re enthusiasm is contagious. I look forward to hearing more in three weeks. Until then, I pray God’s favor upon your work and your witness.

  • http://twitter.com/andrea_zak Andrea Zak

It’s my understanding that ALL pre-orders count towards first week sales.  I just went through this process with another my favorite bloggers; here is her post on making the NYTimes bestseller list: http://www.daniellelaporte.com/business-wealth-articles/the-gold-medal-race-to-the-new-york-times-bestseller-list-write-your-heart-out-run-your-ass-off/

So you can penalize me for pre-ordering your book if you want, but if LaPorte is to be believed you are probably selling fewer books by telling people to wait.  Because now you have to rely on them to be available and paying attention come May.

    • http://theordainedbarista.com/ Barry Hill

      Andrea,
What a great article. I had no idea that E-book sales don’t count towards your NYTBS count. That stinks. That can’t really be true—can it?

      • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

I am verifying this now. I don’t believe that is correct. Thanks.

        • http://www.likeawarmcupofcoffee.com Sarah Mae

Can’t wait to hear back on this Michael, I’m very curious myself as I’m preparing for my book launch. Thanks!

          • http://michaelhyatt.com Michael Hyatt

I just got confirmation: Amazon does not hold sales reporting. In other words, they begin shipping and reporting as soon as they have stock available. In other words, your pre-orders will likely ship well before the pub date. That’s why I am trying to hold all sales for that first week.

        • http://theordainedbarista.com/ Barry Hill

          Great,
I would REALLY like to know whatever you find out.

  • Gary Morrison

Hi Michael, will the book be released in the UK at the same time or should we purchase via US? If you are releasing an electronic version the location won’t matter obviously.

My history has shown that I am slow to get on board with the “latest and greatest thing since sliced bread” and this includes social media.  I clearly see the flaws and traps that it contains and have written it off thinking the negatives far outweigh the benefits.  However, you are slowly convincing me that it might be time for this old codger to step into the 21st century.  After all I am reading your blog and learning a great deal from it.

I have a business idea that on one side of the coin, so to speak,  is a profit center and the other side is a tool for missions. I have been thinking and dreaming about this model for several years and the pieces are starting to come together with recent networking relationships that I have developed.  I now see how social media can help me supercharge these ideas and make them a reality much quicker by creating a platform and capitalizing on the collective energy of thousands of people that I otherwise could never connect or network with.

Thank you for pursuing your dream and sharing it so that the rest of us can be encouraged to follow ours.

I was talking to a friend this morning who is writing a book and I said, “You HAVE to go to Michael Hyatt’s blog and read it and then get his ‘winning book proposal’ PDF! Hands down!”

I look forward to the new book. I’ll chip in as one small step towards the best seller buzz. Can’t wait!

I’m in.  Way in.  This site (and your wisdom) has been a game-changer for me.  Can’t wait (now I’m really anxious) to read this book!  My peers will hear all about it!

This sounds so exciting that I don’t want to miss out. Learning the valuable information that you share in this new book will, I believe, help me to have a better, more comprehensive plan in a venture that the Lord has been leading me towards. Thank you for sharing and I can’t wait until May 21!

Incredible!  I can’t wait for the book – and yes I will spread the message!

Can we also purchase it from Amazon to read via Kindle and forward you the reciept  or will this only be valid if you buy a physical copy in stores?

    Looking forward reading this immensely.

Any format, any retailer. It doesn’t matter.

I am hoping a platform would help my husband’s dental practice get more recognition through social media.  We have tried conventional marketing and advertising, but we are realizing that it is a new advertising world and we need direction.  Thank you for your information.

Please don’t hold it against me…I pre-ordered it upon announcement and it arrived a couple of days ago! If I had only known sooner….Sorry Mr. H.

Hi Michael, I’m late to the “party!” Are there any bonuses (for purchasing your book) left over for the late comers like me? :-)

    • http://michaelhyatt.com/ Michael Hyatt

I’m sorry. There aren’t. That offer was only available during the first week of publication. Thanks.
