On Taxation and Prosperity

I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.”

Isn't that setting up a straw man? Does anyone really think that you can tax your way to prosperity?

Yes there are some that think we can tax to create programs that will in the long term benefit people and bring prosperity. But that is not the same as taxing to bring about prosperity. We no long live in an era of kings where the taxes go directly to the king.

So true. So true… The best way to insure that someone doesn't invest, is to make it too expensive to invest. It is a brutal, slippery slope. I don't understand why our political leaders would want to 'punish' those who strive to prosper as much as they can, IF they do it in an ethical, law-abiding manner…

True Mike! “Every experience is a paradox in that it means to be absolute, and yet is relative; in that it somehow always goes beyond itself and yet never escapes itself.” as spelt by T. S. Eliot
