For years, I have used the concept of “templating” to improve my productivity. The idea is that you create a template for any task that you find yourself doing repeatedly. So instead of “reinventing the wheel” every time, you do it once, save it as a template, and then reuse it.

I have a short list of truly great business books that I have read. One of them is The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. This book literally changed my life. It is the first book I recommend to people who are thinking about starting a business.

In the book, Michael covers three big ideas:

1. The entrepreneurial myth
2. The turn-key revolution
3. The business development process

If you are going to succeed in business, it is critical that you understand—and implement—all three.

Rather than reviewing one book this week, I thought I would share my favorite business books. I get asked this question regularly, most recently when I was lecturing at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Business School earlier this week.
