Why I Have Decided to Take My Blog Down

I have decided to take my blog down. But just for the Christmas holidays. For the past few months, John Saddington at MilkEngine.com and I have been working on a new design. I am really excited about it!

Sorry for typos. Tiny iPhone buttons.

I just wrote a post saying thanks for all you do through your blog. I used a title playing off of your twitter fast headline.

Reading this, I thought, gee will my next post be, "Why I Have Decided To Take Down My Post About Michael Hyatt's Blog?"

Whoever said, "The headline is really important," was right!

Glad it was just a "made you look."

  • http://twitter.com/youcanknowgod @youcanknowgod

been reading for a few months…enjoying the blog and looking forward to seeing the new design.

  • Dennis

Had to come over as soon as I saw your tweet: almost knocked me out of my chair.

Thank you for your blog. You have been a huge positive impact on my personal/spiritual growth. I look forward to the relaunch. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.

Thanks for giving me a heart attack!!! Whew, felt like Fred Sanford there for a second.

Can't wait to see what wonders you have in store for us.

    Merry Christmas!

  • http://twitter.com/TheGraphicsLab @TheGraphicsLab

That's a good one! You hooked me in!

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/success2you John Richardson

Wow Michael, I read the headline and was shocked. Glad it is only temporary. I have been planning on updating my blog with a new design for a while now, but with all the WordPress plugins, widgets, and tweaks it will take a day or two to get everything working anew. It used to be you could just click on a new template, reload a few plugins, and be up and running. Not anymore. Many of the new templates require a custom configuration which can take a long time with multiple years of posts.

I think your strategy of actually taking your blog down is a good one. No "half working" site for your readers to deal with. At least you are not changing your domain, which can take days to re-paginate. Good luck on the upgrade. I hope everything goes smoothly for you. Looking forward to your new series.

Last year, I moved from TypePad to WordPress. Thankfully, I didn’t know how difficult the transition would be. Once I realized what I had gotten myself into, I was too far along to stop! (Same thing is true for most important stuff in life.)

This transition will be far easier I think, but it is still complicated. Lots of moving parts!

Would love to see a 2010 post on why you re-designed your blog.

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/michaelhyatt Michael Hyatt

Funny, my wife keeps asking me this same question! Actually, I am planning to do that soon after the re-launch. It has been an interesting process. Thanks.

Thanks for the mild heart attack, Mike. You win the link-bait award for 2009. Needless to say, I'm thrilled that it was just a 'chancer'.

I look forward to the redesign and more wisdom in 2010.

Happy holidays to you, Gail and the whole family.

You about gave me a heart attack. I saw your tweet while finishing up breakfast with a friend & as soon as I got home, I had to look this up! Your shocking statement made me realize you are indeed my blog hero and I was surprised by how sad I was and what a huge gap was about to be left in my online life. I wondered if after all this time, you just got tired of the blogging pace (which I would find discouraging because I just started.) I've never posted a comment before, but had to tell you to never doubt you make a difference in people's lives. You make a very positive difference in mine! Thanks for only taking a re-design break. Whew! :-)

My first reaction was "Oh,no–I'll miss him so much!" And, what a relief when I clicked on the link and saw the close-down is temporary. I have enjoyed and am thoroughly enjoying being able to participate in your conversations. I know I needed some direction in my writing and you have given it to me. I have found great satisfaction in writing my book online–breaking it down into posts has made it doable.

So, I'll "see" you next week–be sure to have a wonderful celebration of Christ's birth. Give my best to your family. And, remember that God's love is absolute–perfect, complete, and real!
