Your Invitation to a Caribbean Cruise for Creatives

What if you had 30 minutes to pitch your book idea to me in person? At the bottom of this post, I will tell you how to sign up for this Caribbean Cruise for Creatives and automatically have your name entered into a contest to win the opportunity to pitch your book. But first, watch this video, then continue reading for details.

Randy Elrod is one of my best friends and a true “Christian creative”—someone who loves beauty, creates it, and knows the Source of it. He hosts the annual Recreate Conference, a gathering of Christian creatives, including worship leaders, book authors, recording artists, graphic artists, and bloggers. I have attended now for three years in a row and have loved the experience.

That’s why when Randy shared with me his vision to host a Caribbean cruise for Christian creatives, I got very excited. It sounded like the perfect opportunity to enjoy a week with a group of like-minded people: learning, loving, and laughing.

Best of all, I am inviting you—yes, YOU!—to come along. (More about that in a minute.)

The theme of the cruise is “The Creative Life.” In addition to Randy and his wife, Chris, I will be speaking, along with Pete Wilson and Ken Davis.

  • I will speak on “The Creative Life: How We Work”
  • Pete will be speak on “The Creative Life: How We Worship”
  • Randy and Chris will speak on “The Creative Life: How We Love”
  • Ken will speak on “The Creative Life: How We Enjoy”

In addition, the five of us will host a Q&A session on the creative life. I am especially looking forward to this session.

The cruise is scheduled for April 2–7, 2011 aboard the Celebrity Century, which is one of the best cruise ships in the world. We will be departing from Miami and stopping at Ocho Rios, Jamaica and George Town, Grand Cayman. The weather will be fantastic, the food exquisite, and the relaxation sublime. (Just watch this video above to get a taste of what this experience will be like.)

This is a great opportunity to leave the cold of winter behind, converge with other creatives, and celebrate the Master Creator.

Who is this cruise for? If you fall into one or more of the following categories, this cruise is for you:

  • Anyone who wants to experience a beautiful yet affordable getaway, whether you are creative or not;
  • Those who are professional creatives—authors, recording artists, graphic artists, dramatists, bloggers, etc.;
  • Those who want to be more creative, though perhaps not as a professional; or
  • Those who are in vocational ministry—pastors, worship leaders, arts pastors, etc.

How much does it cost? The entry-level price is only $749 per person. That price includes all taxes, tips, and the conference fee itself. (Note: your travel to Miami is not included in this price.)

All of the speakers—me included—have waived our speaking fees. One hundred percent of the conference fee ($99 of the $749) will go to benefit Kalein, a retreat center that Randy founded to inspire and mentor Christian artists.

Everyone who registers through me will receive a free copy of my two e-books, “Writing a Winning Fiction Book Proposal” and “Writing a Winning Non-Fiction Book Proposal.” In addition, your name will automatically be entered into a CONTEST to spend 30-minutes pitching me your book book idea.

If you have ever thought about publishing a book, this is YOUR CHANCE to get my personal and direct feedback. I will meet with you one-on-one for 30 minutes, listen to your book pitch, provide my initial feedback, and answer any questions you have about your idea or the publishing process.

To qualify for the free e-books and this 30-minute book pitch contest, you must register here. This will also ensure the best price and a berth on this “creative voyage.” You can register with only a $150 deposit.

Michael, do you see this cruise as only for ministry staff folks? My wife is a photographer and we are committed christians… the cruise approaches the 20 year anniversary mark – thinking it would be a great surprise…wondering if it would be a time of inspiration for my "artist" or if it is more focused on the practicals of doing ministry? Realizing that we all "do" ministry whether we are vocational or not! :) I would just like to help energize her creativity and my own although I am not a vocational ministry dude…thanks!

    • Michael Hyatt

Absolutely not. There will be plenty of lay people. Being a creative is a “state of mind.” I think you would feel right at home.

Thanks for asking the question. I’ll bet others have it, too.

      • marydemuth

I'm thinking about it. Kind of bummed I watched that video. Very tempting!

        • marydemuth

Oops replied to the wrong thread, but I think you know what I meant.

        • Michael Hyatt

I loved the video. I have talked with some folks who have been on this specific ship and said it lives up to the image.

          • marydemuth

Drat! I was hoping it was cobwebby and didn't live up to its hype. :)

  • @heretolead

I just registered for the event and will spend the next six months getting ready for my twenty minute pitch. :) Do I need to do anything to be one of the twelve?

    • Michael Hyatt

We are already tracking that. But you can go ahead and email me at michael dot hyatt at gmail dot come. I will add you to my list. As we get closer to the cruise date, I will coach you on how to get the most from our time together.

  • Tiffany

What would make this possible? For you to have a giveaway! And for me to win!!! It sounds like a dream cruise but nearly impossible for me to attend at this time. Best wishes for an enlightening time.

  • Shari Brown

Do you need a cruise photographer? lol. Sounds like a great opportunity for people of like minds to connect. I hope to do this with you all at some point, though this year does not look probable. Best wishes for a safe and pleasurable voyage.

  • marydemuth

    Looks like lots of fun!

    • Michael Hyatt

Come with us! It would be a great opportunity to hang out together.

  • Ken

Mike, Ken Davis here. As a speaker I am already registered, but I am going to register twice just to get the 20 minute book pitch!!! What a generous offer. The twelve smartest people will register right away. Look forward to cruising with you

    • Michael Hyatt

Ha! Ken you are so funny. I can’t wait to hang out with you. I know we are going to have a blast.

You can pitch me any time you want!

  • Justin Lukasavige

This is going to be a blast! I spoke with my friend, author Dan Miller, on this exact ship and the exact route in 2010 (February).

The ship is fabulous and it looks like you have some great speakers lined up.

If you see a waiter named Rodrigo, tell him I said hi.

  • WindmillDuke

Michael, I'm tempted to go just to meet you (well…and pitch my book, Generational Fathering).

But, talk about "creative," how would I explain to my wife why I'm gone for a week? I swore off cruises on the onliest one we took. I'm a retired Navy captain, got to get to the bridge, chat with the captain…made the "mistake" of asking if, the cruise lacking a chaplain, I could conduct services on Sunday. Went great…until the rare loudspeaker call, "Captain Taylor, please report to the Cruise Director." I instinctively went, "Aye, Aye," headed to the office discovered I was being asked to tend to the death of one of the passengers. Then another. Then another. But I did get a bottle of wine for using up most of two days of my "vacation". If you guarantee no one will die or that YOU will be the chaplain, I just might go.

    • Michael Hyatt

That’s simple: (1) Bring your wife and (2) don’t volunteer to be the chaplain! Now quit making excuses and get yourself registered. This will make up for that bad experience!

  • John Richardson

Hey Michael, my wife and I signed up for the cruise. Sounds like a great itinerary and a possible tax deduction for the seminar. I'm working on my second book and would love 20 minutes to get your ideas on publishing/promotion options. Hopefully we are early enough to be one of the 12. The rest of your speaking lineup is top notch. As a creative guy, I can't wait to see Randy's program and Ken's humorous speaking.
Just one note. The online signup for the cruise does not allow you to leave a deposit amount, but defaults to the total price (I tried all options). I'll call tomorrow and see if we can get that changed. Thanks for putting this on!

    • Michael Hyatt

Awesome, John. I am so glad you are going.

I apologize for the deposit amount problem. You are the second person to mention this to me, so I will see what I can do to get it corrected. Thanks.

  • Michael Hyatt

Wonderful, James. That is great news. Thanks!

  • Paulette Harris

Bawlllll. Okay I won't be snarky, but do you have a rich uncle or anything??? :) I would love to join you all on this cruise and wonderful opportunity but there is no way as they say on God's green earth. He will have to do a miracle for Jim and me to attend. However since I am a nice person, I promise to do the next best thing and that is pray for all of you and the attendees to have a wonderful and successful time! Honest! Have a ton of fun. That is about as creative as it gets. I'm calling the Father's attention to you and for you.
Hugs in Christ, Paulette Harris. :)

  • Gregory Scott

Michael-I just booked us on the cruise. Sounds like a great time. My wife and I are veteran cruisers and have been on Celebrity. It's an excellent cruise line, and our time on Celebrity in the Mediterranean still stands as our favorite vacation. Hoping I made it as one of the twelve?

    • Michael Hyatt

That is fantastic to hear. I will notify those who made the first 12.

      • Mike Harris

Your pitch worked Michael! Normally, I'm a deliberator, analyzer, doomsayer, procrastinator….you know the type. But in this case, as soon as I read about your generous offer for the first twelve, I signed up wihout a thought. (Got $750 I can borrow?) Kidding. I received the email at 0530 EST and signed up at 0830. So I'm guessing I may be one of the twelve. Your message above says that you will notify those that qualified. How will that be? Personal email? Regular mail? Your blog? It's not like I'm excited about it or nothin'. Mike Harris

        • Michael Hyatt

Yes, I will be notifying by personal email this weekend. I just got the email addresses from the cruise company. Thanks.

          • Mike Harris

Hey Mike. It's late Sunday night, and I never received an email. I only mention it because the Tour Company (their name eludes me) told me that, in fact, I was one of the first twelve to register. Sorry to be a pain, but I just wanted to make sure that I hadn't fallen 'tween the cracks.

          • Michael Hyatt

Mike, you are definitely one of the 12. I had hoped to get an email out today. However, I was not able to do that. Nevertheless, you are in. Thanks for your patience.

      • Gregory Scott

Michael-I didn't receive an e-mail but was informed by the travel agency I was one of the first 12. Just wanted to confirm with you and make sure I didn't miss an e-mail.

        • Michael Hyatt

I don’t have you on the list at all. I am double-checking with the travel agency. Thanks.

        • Michael Hyatt

I just got confirmation back. You are registered and you are on the list of 12. I thought your last name was “Scott,” that’s why I was confused. Thanks.

          • Gregory Scott

Thanks. Sorry for the confusion. Just trying to keep my secret life as a blogger separate from my life as a trial lawyer so as not to interfere with my career in the in the courtroom fighting for truth, justice and the American way. :)

  • meganjoyburdzy

Awesome, awesome, awesome! SOOOOOO exciting. I am trying to convince my lovely mother to let us go. Her question was "Is his wife going?" So, is she? I REALLY want to be there for this cruise!

    • Michael Hyatt

Indeed she is. Gail will be with me!

  • meganjoyburdzy

Mom was excited. Now she wants to have lunch with your wife (she's milkin' it for all it's worth). My mom actually is a very interesting person. You get her into a Walmart check-out line and she'll have the workers life story and prayer needs in 2 minutes. Barbara Walters, watch out. We have had some odd, unfortunate and miraculous (to say the least) things occur in our lives and she has been holding strong to Jesus and helping me to mature spiritually throughout it all. I have grown so much in Christ because of her love for Jesus and me.

So, now that I've completely bored you out of your mind, if we went on the cruise, would Mrs. Hyatt have lunch or dinner with my mom? No pressure, just asking.

Oh, and I love following you two on twitter. It's so romantic and refreshing to read about the way you two love each other.

    God bless you both!

    • Michael Hyatt

Thanks for your kind words. I can’t commit Gail at this point, but chances are good that they would have a chance to talk. I don’t think there will be that many in our group.

  • meganjoyburdzy

Thanks for the response (I get excited easily – God is good!). :0) (that's not the actual size of my nose as compared to the rest of my face). My mom was kind of meaning it as a far-out-there request with a grin. Maybe see you next year!

  • Laurinda

I would put the deposit down but the site won't let me. I've put feelers out to friends to see if any of them want to come.

    • Michael Hyatt

I have emailed the cruise line. They are going to work on that tomorrow (Tuesday). They were closed in observance of Labor Day.

  • Mason Stanley

Of all the times to be in Korea teaching! To be honest I wouldn’t have an idea to pitch, I’d rather spend the time “picking your brain.”

  • swmackey

We're already signed up and are looking forward to meeting you.
    Cheers – Steve

  • sherimackey

Good morning Michael – Already booked and looking forward to discussing my proposal on Extreme Global Leadership!

    • Michael Hyatt

      Excellent, Sheri.

  • Shellie Bailey

Trying to talk my husband into it. Have all 12 spots been filled? I would love to pitch my book to you!

  • idelette

    hi Michael
I just registered–wow! So excited! Really hoping there's still one spot left for a pitch? Thanks so much for this opportunity. I can't wait.

  • Sam M

sounds great! the 'register here' link doesn't work though. ??

    • Michael Hyatt

I apologize for that. It should be working now. Thanks.

      • Sam

thanks – registered now – looking forward to pitching to/hanging with you!

  • idelette

Hi Michael, Any chance you could give us the list of the 12 people who will have a slot to pitch to you, please? #suspense

    • Michael Hyatt

I just got the list from the cruise company and will be notifying everyone later today or tomorrow. However, you made it!

      • Sharon Spano

Okay, Michael. I registered almost immediately and can't wait to hear who the twelve people are. And, since you are all about customer service, I thought you'd like to know that the cruise line billed me for the full amount for two people at $1,600 plus instead of the $150 deposit for each of us. We've called, and they are saying it will take a while to credit my account on that. Great that I don't have checks bouncing all over the place off my debit account, but my thinking is if they can take it out in one swoop, well, they ought to be able to put it back in just as quickly, right? Guess they're working on this deposit thing. Give us the twelve! Wow, do you feel like a rock star or what?

        • Michael Hyatt

Sorry about that. We are working with them to expedite this.

      • idelette

Fantastic! Not sure I'll be able to sleep for the next several months–too excited. If you need to add me to a group email list for the Group of 12, please use: idelette at shaw dot ca Thank you again for this opportunity.

  • Alex Dykstra

    Greetings Michael,

If there are still any available slots left open (one final one, maybe?) or if additional slots become available, please let me know. I'll register for sure if there is, and perhaps still even if there's not.

    Alex Dykstra

    • Michael Hyatt

The first 12 slots are all taken. However, I am now offering a contest to the remaining passengers. You can read the post again for details.

  • phil underwood

I'm in! But, should I hope that my potential book contracts fall through so that I can do this? Naaahhhh, the Bible says "of the making of books there is no end." I can always have a new idea…I'm a CREATIVE!

    • Michael Hyatt

Awesome, Phil. I look forward to meeting you.

  • @alisahope

Saw the link on Facebook. I would like to go, but I wasn't sure the 12 slots were taken. If not, I think I could swing a cruise.

    • Michael Hyatt

The initial 12 slots are already taken. However, I am now offering my two ebooks free to everyone who registers, plus a contest where one person will win a 30-minute, one-on-one session with me to pitch their book proposal.

I’d love to see you go!

  • Laurinda

I'll try one more time. The last time I tried to register the site was down. I already own your ebooks.

    • Michael Hyatt

I just tried it myself, and the site is up. Please let me know if you have any problems. Thanks.

      • Laurinda

        It worked! Thanks

  • swmackey

We previously registered directly through the travel agent (this reference was not available at the time). We were told by the agency (Tommy) that we were booked to pitch our book to you and have indication on the tickets. Are you still holding to those prior made reservations for the private book pitches?
Thanks! We're really looking forward to the trip.

    • Michael Hyatt

      Yes, you made the list!

Michael, I would love to see you develop a program to Holy Land where we can use your experience to bring well being and prosperity to Christian of the Holy Land.

  • carol

Michael, I am writing Theological books as well as nonfiction Christian books. This is the year of writing for me beginning now. I have several titles/books I am writing on at the ame time…not sure this is wise but write when inspired on the titles. Also writing a dissertation. I have not yet published a book…only a poem. Have the twelve spots been taken? Thinking seriously about this trip

    • Michael Hyatt

I am afraid they have. However, I have one of my key editors coming who will take the overflow. I think our group will be small enough that we’ll still have some time together.

  • chelsea eubank

I am a 23 year old college student who just graduated from college and I believe this cruise will be an amazing way for me to start my new life as an adult “LOL”. Truly, I think it will be inspiring and I am going to take my Mom with me as her graduation gift for raising me.

Not sure if there will be many people my age but I think it will be a blast and will help build my faith. Hey, maybe I will be the first one to bed at night because everyone else will be rockin with the Lord.

I have all my sorority sisters praying for me to win the 30 mins to talk to Mr. Hyatt. Not even about a book but just about being a business person and keeping a moral compass and faith.

Guys, I can’t wait to see you all and raise the roof off the ship with our singing.

    • Michael Hyatt

Thanks, Chelsea. We’d love to have you. I think you will have a blast.

  • Carlabrogden

OK I am advertising my bedroom and dining room furniture online and see if God wants to give me this gift! sounds so fabulous for learning and networking! thanks.

  • Lynne

Me, my photographer husband–2 creatives taking the honeymoon we didn’t have, and getting to learn more about writing and publishing. Oh man, wouldn’t THAT be nice!

  • Jeff Goins

    Sounds awesome.

  • Erica

So excited about this opportunity – Mr. Hyatt, when you choose the person for the 30 minute pitch time, will you please post it on here? Looking forward to the cruise!
